Discovering the Hobbiton Village

“There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something…You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”

Wishing all a very Happy New Year 2019 and may it be exciting, adventurous and filled with laughter, love and luck! Above all, let it be full of pleasant surprises, like the dialogue (mentioned above) from “Hobbit” reflects.

Many of you must be familiar with either the book ‘Hobbit’ or its blockbuster movies The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I am a big fan of the Hobbit movies and was so thrilled to visit its set at New Zealand in 2016. I took maybe over 1000 pics of the place (my record best in 4 hours)! I am now wondering why I never wrote anything about one of my favourite place?! So, this post is to set the mistake right, and give you a truthful insight into ‘Hobbiton’!

How To Reach?

You can take an amazing drive from Queenstown through rolling hills dotted with fluffy sheeps. On the way you will pass glowworm cave, horse ranches and breathtaking greenery and landscapes.

Or you can have a swag and catch the helicopter ride from Queenstown. It will flyover amazing sights and you might even see a rainbow over the waterfalls!

 

What Makes It Remarkable?

The ‘Hobbiton Movies Set’ at New Zealand was actually the movie set for the ‘Hobbit’’s first movie, however, after the movie was made they didn’t dismantle the whole thing and converted it into this amazing walk-though fun place. Its remarkable to see that how much hard-work goes into making a movie, and you can see it in each and every detail.

The fencings wear an old worn-out look, but they are not really old bust has been painted upon to make them look so…

That huge dominating tree at top of the hillock… is FAKE! It took 2 years to make to its tiniest details but shown in the movie for maybe 30 seconds max.! Talk about dedication to details!

Each Hobbit house has been made with such minute details that only seeing is believing. Furthermore, the houses/holes are of different scale and dimensions to represent the various height variations of characters of the movies! Science in action?

Category 3 & 4 must have ticket allocated prior to arrival and be accompanied by a full paying adult.
