Assam has over 25 national parks & wildlife sanctuaries. In this post we will cover the top 3 national parks & wildlife sanctuaries. If you are a nature lover or have kids with you on tour trip then a visit to atleast one of these biodiverse sanctuaries is a must!

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is a protected area of around 38.81 sq km and meant for the protection of the endangered on-horned rhino. In Pobitor the rhino concentration is higher then the Kaziranga. Once in Pobitora, you can either visit the sanctuary on elephant-back or covered jeeps. You can also take a walk in the sanctuary in the designated path. Pobitor is also good for sighting amazing birds. Children would love the boat ride and the children’s park. Return back after lunch and reach Guwahati in the afternoon.

Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is the natural habitat of not only the one- horned rhino but you will also see some of the exotic migratory birds that makes it their home every year during different season. If you take a guid then he will be able to share with you their extensive knowledge of jungle and also the local life and culture. You can combine Kaziranga visit with a trip to get a glimpse of the simple life style of some of the oldest ethnic groups of this region and also be able to enjoy their cuisine. You can also visit tea gardens and see local dance forms like bihu and jhumur. Pertinent to mention that you should book through a local tour group/agency if you are interested in knowing the local people and culture, enjoy their cuisine and lifestyle.

Nameri National Park
Nameri National Park is located in the foothills of Himalayas & about 40 kms from Tezpur. Nameri has over 300 species of birds. Jia- Bhoroli and its 6 tributaries criss-cross this area. You will also encounter Sambar, Hog Deer, Barking deer, Wild Boar, etc. Tiger and Leopards are also occupants of this national park! At Nameri National Park you can stay in an Eco Camp and experience the unique flora and fauna of the rainforest.
